Measurable Objectives – March 2010

WCPC Mission Statement:

"Our mission is to cultivate personal responsibility, individual growth, and a safe, healthy community by strengthening collaboration among community entities to reduce substance abuse among youth and adults through education and awareness of substance abuse trends and appropriate interventions."



Objective 1: Drop Boxes:

"The Washington County Prevention Coalition will make our community safer and healthier by decreasing the number of prescription drugs available for citizens to steal, sell or abuse. We will do this by installing three more drug drop boxes in the county by 2010. We will monitor and report the number of drugs being deposited in these bins, and through radio advertisements, newspaper and magazine promotions, we will increase the number of drugs being deposited by 20% within six months of having the boxes installed."

       • Have applications out to SGPD, HCPD, DSCPD & WCPD by November, 2009


       • Have applications approved by departments and sent to DEA by December 10, 2009

Objective 2: Website:

The Washington County Prevention Coalition will educate our community and make them aware of substance abuse trends and appropriate interventions by helping other counties in our are in developing, launching and promoting a website with information for parents, youth, educators and coalition members.

       • We will participate in the launch of this website by the end of October, 2009.


       • We will help to launch parent portion of site by December, 2009.


       • We will focus on the parents link for the launch of this site. This link will include tips and advice   for parents on how to talk to their kids about drugs and alcohol, signs and symptoms to watch for, ways to decrease the risk of their children abusing substances, and information about current trends and culture regarding substance abuse in their community.


       • We will advertise the site through newspaper, radio, television, posters in schools and the community, billboards, flyers sent to the community in business mail, etc.


              o 4 Billboards will be up in our county by December 1st, 2009


              o Posters will be placed in high schools during the month of October.

       • We will also advertise the site at community events like parades, sporting events, health fairs, etc.

       • We will monitor the use of this website by the number of hits it receives.

              o Report April 2010

       • We will monitor use of the website by recall questions during community presentations.
This will contribute to the coalitions mission of cultivating personal responsibility, individual growth and a safe and healthy community by educating those who visit it and sponsoring and promoting other positive community events.



Objective 3: Community Presentations

The Washington County Prevention Coalition will educate and make the community aware of the prescription drug problem by increasing the number of informative presentations given on a community level regarding this issue. Specifically, the coalition will sponsor key leader presentations for those in the community who can help us gain access to larger populations.

       • The coalition will start by offering a community training with a special invitation to religious leaders to attend. We will invite Approximately 330 religious leaders from the county by sending letters and flyers.


              o We will hold the meeting at a local high school to provide us with the room for large numbers and technology to present our material.


              o We will provide resources and ideas to these leaders on community events they can sponsor to help educate the general population.

       •  We will track the number of people in attendance, and the number of presentations that we schedule and hold as a result of this key leader training.

              o Done through Survey Monkey and Monthly reports in coalition meetings.

       • We will also create and administer a survey to the participants of our presentations to monitor the success and help us evaluate.

              o We will use these in 50% of the presentations given in December 09, January 10, and February 10.

       • We will increase the number of community presentations by double (12) in 2010.



Objective 4: Coalition Education

In order to raise awareness and education the WCPC will stay apprised and educated of substance abuse issues, trends and appropriate interventions through trainings at monthly meetings and news updates/current events at monthly trainings.

       • The coalition will start each meeting with news updates on trends and issues.


       • The coalition will complete the first phase of the CTC model by March 2010 to learn and effectively implement proven interventions.


       • The coalition will begin tracking Substance Abuse education/training of it’s members.



Objective 5: Youth Coalition

The WCPC coalition will meet every criteria of the mission statement by developing, promoting and supporting a youth branch of the coalition.

       • The coalition will find an advisor for a youth coalition at Snow Canyon High, Dixie High, Pine View High and Desert Hills High by March, 2010.

       • The coalition will help organize a youth coalition at Snow Canyon High, Dixie High, Pine View High and Desert Hills high.

       • The coalition will find an advisor for the county-wide youth group by November, 2009.

       • The coalition will assist the youth groups in starting their first advocacy campaigns

              o Youth Perceptions Video

Objective 6: Community Education & Awareness

In order to raise awareness and education of the community the coalition will increase participation in community events such as parades, fairs, etc. by 100% from 2009 - 2010.
